The “bus factor” plan

Plan Last Reviewed on July 29th 2020

As a solo developer, it’s important to explain what happens if me, Austin Ginder, is temporarily or permanently incapacitated and unable to perform Anchor Hosting services. I’ll break this down on 3 different levels of severity: short term, long term and permanent impact.

As a web host reseller, all core business functions of Anchor Hosting would continue to operate without me. That is web hosting, domains and DNS would all continue to operate as I rely on other reputable providers Kinsta, Hover and Constellix. Even most of my routine WordPress maintenance would continue to be applied on it’s regular preset timeframe.

Short Term Impact

In the situation where I’m unable to perform Anchor Hosting services for a few to many days then my core responsibilities would be delayed. Core services such as:

  • Creating new WordPress sites
  • Launching or migrating WordPress sites
  • Technical support for WordPress sites
  • DNS or Domain management

I would plan to address any critical support requests sent to support@anchor.host at first availability and then slowly ramp back to regular technical support.

Long Term Impact

In the situation where I’m unable to perform Anchor Hosting services for weeks or months then my core responsibilities would be temporarily shifted over to a trusted business colleague, who also runs a similar web host reselling maintenance service. This business colleague would do their best to respond to critical support requests sent to support@anchor.host.

Permanent Impact

In the situation where I was permanently unable to perform Anchor Hosting services then Anchor Hosting would taken over by a trusted business colleague, who also runs a similar web host reselling maintenance service. This business colleague could decide to operate Anchor Hosting as is or merge with their own business.
